14-year-old girl dies from overdose after mother ‘gave her meth and heroin’

Nancy Kellum, 37, is accused of supplying the methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced heroin that killed her 14-year-old daughter.

A mother in North Carolina has been charged with murder after authorities accused her of supplying methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced heroin to her 14-year-old daughter, who died of an overdose. 

Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said Nancy Kellum, 37, had been arrested after her charges were upgraded to an open count of murder in connection with her daughter’s death. 

Authorities were called to a Midway Park residence on February 15 to respond to the death  of a juvenile, the office said in a statement published on social media.

Investigators said they found out that Kellum had provided two juveniles with methamphetamine and fentanyl-laced heroin, with the second minor being another relative. 

Kellum’s daughter suffered an overdose and passed away after life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said. 

Initially, Kellum was taken into custody and charged with three Counts Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury, with the mother being taken to the Onslow County detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.

After an autopsy showed that Kellum’s daughter had died from a “lethal combined overdose of Fentanyl, Heroin and Methamphetamine", authorities obtained a warrant for Kellum’s arrest on Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office said the mother surrendered herself to Onslow County Sheriff’s Office shortly after. 

Kellum was transported to the Onslow County Detention Center under “NO BOND”.
