The all-male composition of the Shanks board ended today when the 133-year-old waste-management company appointed its first female member. TomTom's finance director, Marina Wyatt, has joined as a non-executive director.

She replaces Peter Johnson, who is leaving after eight years. Adrian Auer, Shanks' chairman, said: "I have no doubt [Marina] will add tremendous insight and value."
