John Moulton, the veteran venture capitalist, is setting up a €100m (£81m) joint venture with Ireland's national pension and social welfare fund to invest in struggling small and medium-sized companies in the country.

Moulton's Better Capital will put up half the money and establish an office in Dublin to manage the investments. The joint fund is aiming to achieve capital growth through investing in distressed businesses.
