M&S plans huge depot in Essex
Marks & Spencer has unveiled its blueprint for its third UK distribution centre in south Essex, as part of a £200m investment that will create 700 jobs.
The retailer will begin building the 900,000 sq ft facility, at the London Gateway container port and logistics park, next year. By locating its distribution centre next to the port, which is just 25 miles from central London, M&S will be able to transport its clothing, homewares and gifts to many UK and international stores more efficiently.
London Gateway, owned by DP World, will be Europe's largest logistics park. It is due to open in the fourth quarter of this year.
