Luxury car company BMW had to end a press conference in Germany after its new chief executive collapsed on stage in a moment of dizziness.

Harald Krueger, 49, was escorted off the stage at the Frankfurt International Motor Show with the help of staff. A spokesman for the company said Krueger was treated by a doctor and is recovering well.

He was feeling unwell before the conference, according to reports, and had recently returned from trips abroad.

Krueger was speaking for the first time at the biennial event after he was appointed CEO in May, replacing Norbert Reithofer.

BMW was using the conference to present a revamped version of the 7-series sedan, but it will do so without Kruger, who has reportedly said he will not return to the show.
