STOCKS ENDED a week of gains with a mixed performance as the Nasdaq rose to its 13th record in 16 sessions, while construction giant Caterpillar dragged down the Dow with a profits warning.

Qualcomm, Microsoft and Intel led up the Nasdaq, which rose 22.02 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 3,369.13. The Dow average fell 31.81 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 11,003.89, with Caterpillar accounting for all of the loss. The S&P 500 dropped 2.95 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,421.99.
