US TECHNOLOGY stocks propelled Wall Street higher, sending the hi-tech Nasdaq index storming into record terrain on optimism for the demand for personal computers. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 61.44 points, or 2.37 per cent, to 2,652.13, a new closing high.

The Dow Jones average rose by 28.92 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 10,718.59, which was just short of last Thursday's high point of 10,727.18.
