Ryan Reynolds opens up about fatherhood: 'Leaving the house is getting harder and harder'

Ryan Reynolds has expressed his joy at being a father of three girls, after welcoming a baby daughter with wife Blake Lively earlier this year.

During an appearance on Today on Thursday, the actor explained that his household is now “all women” but that he’s completely content with that.

“I’d have it no other way,” he said, before joking that having three daughters with Lively is his way of doing his part “to wipe men off the face of the earth”.

In addition to the couple’s third child, whose name has not yet been announced, Reynolds and Lively are parents to James, five, and Inez, three.

When asked how the couple picked the name of their third child, Reynolds joked: “We haven’t yet!” before adding: “All of the letters in her name are silent. I want to give her something to push against in life.”

After James was born in December 2014, the couple, who are known to keep details surrounding their personal lives private, waited until March of the following year to reveal her name to the public.

As for the hardest part of being a father, Reynolds said that it is having to leave his children for work commitments.

“Leaving the house is getting harder and harder,” he said. “It gets a lot harder when they ask: ‘Where are you going? When are you coming home? Why are you leaving me?’”

This week, the Deadpool actor also opened up about fatherhood during an interview with Extra, where he said: “I kind of like my life.

“I’m really sort of into my children, which I know isn’t popular to say. It’s hard, three girls.”

The couple revealed they were expecting their third child in May during the premiere of Reynold’s movie Detective Pikachu, when Lively showed off her pregnancy bump.

Although the birthdate of the couple’s youngest child is unknown, Reynolds shared a photo of himself, Lively and their newborn daughter to social media in October, where he covered the child’s face.

“I love BC,” the actor captioned the photo, before revealing the gender of their third child. “I want my daughters to experience the same natural playground I grew up in.”
