Meghan Markle says she had no idea she had to curtsy to Queen in private and didn’t Google Harry
‘Thank God I hadn’t researched’
Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey she was flying blind when she got welcomed into the royal family.
She didn’t know she had to curtsy to the Queen, and hadn’t even done a deep Google search of her now-husband Prince Harry.
She said she was baffled that she’d have to curtsy, pointing out to Harry that she is his grandmother. He replied, pointing out that as the monarch, it was expected.
“Apparently I did a very deep curtsy, I don’t remember it,” Meghan told Oprah with a laugh, after recounting a story about practicing for a few moments outside before nervously meeting the Queen.
The Duchess said she wrongly thought she would be ready to meet such a high-profile figure, having grown up in Los Angeles around so many celebrities.

“This is not the same,” she said. “It is very easy, especially as an American, to say, ‘These are famous people.’ No, this is completely different ball game.”
Still, she said she was glad she didn’t know too much.
“Thank God I didn’t know a lot about the family,” she said. “Thank God I hadn’t researched. I would’ve been so in my head about it.”
