Rihanna has used her new fashion label, Fenty, to make a political statement condemning Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

On Sunday, the singer-turned-designer shared a photograph on Instagram of herself and a diverse group of women holding a Fenty T-shirt that featured the word “Immigrant” emblazoned across it.

The caption read: “Hey @realdonaldtrump” with a waving emoji.

While Rihanna chose not to elaborate on her political intentions, her post comes shortly after the US president announced on Twitter that he would delay the Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids. The intervention was planned to take place on Sunday, but it has been postponed for two weeks so as to give Congress an opportunity to find a solution on the US-Mexico border.

If no solution is reached, “deportations start!”, Trump added.

The T-shirt Rihanna is holding in the image forms part of her second drop for Fenty, which she recently told The Cut is one of her favourite pieces in the collection.

"For me, it’s a prideful word," she said of the word "immigrant".

"To know that you can come from humble beginnings and just take over whatever you want to, dominate at whatever you put your mind to. The world becomes your oyster, and there’s no limit."

The singer went on to highlight her own status as an immigrant.

“Wherever I go, except for Barbados, I’m an immigrant,” the fashion designer added.

“I think people forget that a lot of times. I think they see Rihanna the brand. But I think it’s important for people to remember, if you love me, everyone out here is just like me. A million Rihannas out there, getting treated like dirt."

Rihanna's comments come as she receives widespread praise for using size-inclusive mannequins to showcase her Fenty designs, with many Twitter users rejoicing that the figures "look like real women".
