From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Deciding what to have for breakfast on Christmas Day can be quite the dilemma - inevitably you end up simply eating everything because it’s Christmas and anything goes.
But your decision this year may be a lot easier thanks to the launch of a new pastry hybrid: the mince pie croissant.
In a world of cronuts and duffins, it was surely only a matter of time before such a creation was concocted.
And the masterminds behind the mash-up are bakery chain, Paul.
The Croissant Nicholas is a beautiful merging of French and British culinary delights, consisting quite simply of a flaky all-butter croissant, filled with sweet mincemeat and dusted with icing sugar.
It’s the pastry we didn’t know we needed.
Part of the Paul Christmas range, the mince pie croissant will be available from 31st October online and from the 28th November in stores for the price of £1.75.
But they’re not the only bakery whipping up festive baked goods which may leave you salivating (and struggling to fit into your jeans come January) - Borough Market bakers Bread Ahead are launching a Christmas pudding doughnut.
It will be complete with gingerbread star and cinnamon sugar dusting, available between early November and Christmas.
It may still be October, but the Christmas carbs can’t come soon enough.
