Georgia Toffolo, Jack Whitehall and other celebrities head to National Television Awards on London tube

Who wants to get stuck in traffic on the night of one of the biggest nights in British entertainment?

As far as the British entertainment calendar goes, the National Television Awards is one of the most glamorous fixtures of the year.

Stars from the worlds of reality TV, talk shows and gritty dramas showed up in full force for this year’s ceremony, all dressed to the nines in an array of elegant ensembles.

While some celebrities may have chosen to make their way to the occasion in suave chauffeur-driven cars, others chose to take a more practical approach by doing what any seasoned Londoner would do - hopping on the London Underground instead.

Sure, a limousine may come fully equipped with champagne and an impressive sound system, but surely taking the tube is a sensible way to avoid getting stuck in the capital's dreaded rush-hour traffic?

That rationale is exactly what passed through the minds of Made In Chelsea’s Georgia “Toff” Toffolo and Ollie Locke, who were spotted sitting on the tube as they headed to the O2 Centre in Greenwich.

Comedian Jack Whitehall also caused quite a stir when he shared a photo of himself and his father in a tube carriage dressed somewhat smarter than their fellow passengers.

Georgia “Toff” Toffolo

Toffolo may have been wearing a Maria Lucia Hohan gown that retails at £1,320, but that didn't deter the reality star from putting her faith in public transport on her way to the awards ceremony.

The 2017 I'm A Celebrity winner shared a photo on social media of her standing in the middle of a tube carriage as the train was making its way to Gloucester Road station in west London, accessorising with rings and earrings by luxury jewellery designer Vicki Sarge.

"Love that you got the tube to the NTAs," one person commented underneath her photo.

"Keeping it real Toff. Why take a car when you can get the tube? Eco power!!" another person wrote.

Jack Whitehall with his father, Michael Whitehall

In 2017 Jack Whitehall launched the first series of Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father on Netflix, a show that documents the comedian and his father, Michael Whitehall, as they travel to various countries around the world.

While the show didn't win the comedy accolade at this year's National Television Awards, Whitehall still managed to crack a joke as he shared a photo of himself and his father on a tube carriage wearing smart tuxedos.

"Someone loves public transport," he wrote in the caption, referencing his father's solemn expression.

"Seriously your dad is the coolest guy around," one person commented in response to the photo.

"The tube. Bringing everybody together. Love it," another person remarked.

Laura Whitmore

Laura Whitmore dazzled on the National Television Awards red carpet wearing a striking metallic Zadig and Voltaire power suit, a pair of black Louboutin heels and carrying a star-shaped Aspinal of London handbag.

Before she struck a pose for the horde of awaiting photographers, Whitmore took part in an impromptu photo shoot on an outdoor London Underground platform with her partner Iain Stirling.

"Only one way to travel during rush hour," she wrote in the caption.

Numerous people have been complimenting the television presenter on her cropped trouser suit in the comments below her Instagram post.

Ollie Locke

Toffolo didn't travel alone as she made her way to the National Television Awards, as she was accompanied by her close friend and Made In Chelsea co-star Ollie Locke.

Locke shared a photo of the pair sitting gracefully alongside one another on the tube, having revealed on his Instagram story that they decided to take public transport after encountering issues with traffic.

Locke, who released his first fictional fantasy book The Islands of Fandye in 2018, wore a dapper double-breasted suit for the occasion.

"My two favourites together," one person commented in response to the picture of Locke and Toffolo.

"Love this! Let's be fair... quicker to travel by tube in London," another person quipped.

Lizzie Cundy

Toffolo and Locke weren't the only ones to experience car trouble on the way to the National Television Awards.

Television presenter Lizzie Cundy also found herself in a spot of trouble during her journey, and so had to resort to the London Underground in an attempt to arrive on time.

"When you have a car collision on the way to the #NTAs!! Only way to travel.. by tube in my gown!! Eeek!" she wrote on Instagram.

Cundy wore a white strapless couture gown with a feathered train by designer Pia Michi, accessorising with a sparkling choker necklace.
