Skoda’s VisionS concept is likely to be among the stars of next month’s Geneva show.

Not just because it’s a new concept, either. The VisionS is as close as they come to a wraps-off preview of the Kodiaq – Skoda’s new seven-seat SUV which will go on sale this time next year.

Based on the VW Group’s MQB architecture, the Kodiaq will be similar underneath to the forthcoming seven-seat version of Volkswagen’s own Tiguan. It will share its engines with the current third-gen Superb, starting with the entry-level 1.6 TDI.

There’ll also be a diesel hybrid on offer, and all but the least powerful engines will be available in 4x4 form. The Vision S, meanwhile, is fitted with a 1.4-litre petrol hybrid – whose two electric motors deliver a form of all-wheel drive.

Prices won’t be announced until nearer the Kodiaq’s on-sale date. But we all know how Skoda likes to roll, and there are strong indications that the newcomer will cost from less than £25,000.

That means it’ll undercut the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe by a significant amount – despite being positioned as a more upmarket option than either of its Korean rivals.
