This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

Last week, Karl Lagerfeld flew to Berlin for the filming of the 30-second commercial spot to promote special-edition models under the Style banner. The campaign is slated for release in Germany on December 22.

Matthias Becker, Volkswagen's marketing director for Germany said Lagerfeld plays himself in the commercial, photographing the cars and musing aloud. The spot is directed by Johan Renck, the producer behind music videos for Madonna and Robbie Williams.

Prior pet projects by the illustrious German designer include shooting the 2010 Pirelli calendar, photographing the A/W 2010 catalog for the French mail-order company 3 Suisses and starring in one of its print ads for a washing machine, as well as putting out a one-off collection for Swedish "fast fashion" chain H&M in 2004. His next endeavor will be designing an affordable, mass market women's collection for U.S. department store chain Macy's, due to hit stores in September 2011.
