Just Eat scandal woman reveals delivery driver has a wife and child

Michelle Midwinter made headlines on Tuesday when a screenshot of a conversation between her and a Just Eat driver went viral as it showed him sending her inappropriate messages.

Today, speaking on Victoria Derbyshire, the 33-year-old jewellery maker revealed that the delivery man in question had also contacted two of her friends and is married with a child.

Recalling the incident on TV, Midwinter explained how she initially thought the driver was angry with her when he dropped off her food.

“He didn’t say anything at all, he just sort of stared at me [...] I thought it was a bit weird”.

A few hours later, he started sending her unsolicited text messages, calling her "bby", which she subsequently posted on her social media channels.

Her posts generated a flurry of comments from women sharing similar experiences, two of whom had even been contacted by the same driver.

“The same guy had messaged two people that I know,” Midwinter explained on the program.

“I put his number into Facebook and it said he had a wife and a child.

“That’s when I thought this isn’t normal behaviour, this isn’t a harmless flirty text, this is quite predatory behaviour.”

She confessed that initially she thought his messages were a bit “funny and cheeky” but the messages soon started to make her feel uncomfortable.

Midwinter also touched on how poorly she thought the incident was handled by Just Eat, who offered her a £10 gift voucher for “the inconvenience”, as the customer services employee said.

However, she revealed that the managing director of Just Eat had since personally contacted her to apologise, particularly for the way the incident was handled by their customer services team.

He said they will also be reviewing a number of policies to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again, she said.

A spokesperson for Just Eat responded to Midwinter’s story with the following statement:

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers is extremely important to us and we were deeply concerned to hear about this incident.

“This driver has acted in a way that does not represent Just Eat and our core values.

“We are investigating this with our restaurant partner and are also speaking to this customer offline and if the customer decides this is a criminal matter and reports it to the police, we will of course assist the police with any investigation.”
