Kate and Rio Ferdinand announce they are expecting their first child together

Kate and Rio Ferdinand have announced they are expecting their first child together.

The former reality television star and retired footballer made their announcement on Instagram, both sharing a video where they tell Rio’s three children of the news.

In the video, the children, who are turned away from the camera, are looking through a photo album at childhood pictures of themselves.

As they turn the page, they read: “Now for the next chapter, guess what?”

Kate then tells the children – 13-year-old Lorenz, 11-year-old Tate and nine-year-old Tia – that she is pregnant, standing up and showing them her baby bump, much to their excitement.

In their captions, Kate and Rio shared their happiness over the new addition to their family.

“We got our wish, another Ferdinand en route!!” Rio wrote.

“I can’t wait to go through this whole pregnancy together and then bring our little human into this world.”

Kate stated in her caption: “The crazy house is about to get a little crazier.”

The former cast member of The Only Way Is Essex added that every time she watches the video, it makes her cry.

“The best reaction,” she wrote, in reference to the way the three children jumped up and screamed in excitement.

“Baby Ferdy we are all so excited to meet you.”

Numerous Instagram users congratulated Kate and Rio on their news.

“Massive congrats to you both,” commented singer Alexandra Burke.

“Amazing news, congratulations,” wrote former footballer Michael Owen.

Kate and Rio were married in September 2019 following a two-year relationship.

Rio has three children from his first marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 from breast cancer.

In February, Rio opened up about how hearing his children talk about their grief “broke him a little bit”.
