A baby has become an internet sensation after apparently walking just a few minutes after being born.

The video clip of the surprising scene was uploaded to Facebook and has stunned people across the globe, amassing 72 million views, over 1.6 million shares and 339,000 reactions.

However some people believe its authenticity is dubious.

The baby was born in Brazil and the video shows the midwife unable to believe what she’s seeing:

“Oh my gosh, the girl is walking. Good gracious!” she says.

Another person in the room then says: “Wait, let me film this,” The Sun reports.

The midwife explains that she’d been trying to give the baby a bath, but she just kept wanting to get up and walk.

“Merciful father. I was trying to wash her here and she keeps getting up to walk,” she explains.

“She has walked from here to here,” she adds, point out the area the child has already covered.

Everyone in the video is astounded at the strength of the newborn and what they’re witnessing.

It’s not clear who the baby’s parents are or in which hospital she was born, but the midwife’s robes imply she works at a Santa Cruz Hospital, in a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, south Brazil.

Usually a baby won’t start walking until around 12 months old, and certainly not before crawling, sitting up and being able to hold their own head up.

People are calling the newborn a ‘miracle baby,’ as the video astounds the world.

However, the baby could simply have what is known as a primitive reflex which is present at birth: although a newborn cannot support its own body weight, if held up, when the soles of their feet touch a flat surface, they will try to walk by putting one foot in front of another.

And this could explain the apparently miraculous video.
