Dying mother gets to watch son graduate from high school in special hospital ceremony

A dying mother was able to see her son graduate from high school, after a special ceremony was held in her hospital ward two weeks early.

Stephanie Northcott has cancer and has been admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, Tennessee for failing health.

Afraid his mum wouldn’t be able to make his official graduation ceremony from Halls High School on May 18, Dalton Jackson, his friends, the school’s football team, and the school’s principal came together to come up with a plan.

Working with the hospital staff, the community was able to bring Jackson’s graduation to his mum in a moving ceremony recorded by Julie Northcott.

In the beautiful video, Jackson dons his cap and gown as he receives his diploma from his principal, Suzanne Keefe, who has to pause as emotion threatens to overwhelm her.

Jackson and his mother are then able to share a special dance to celebrate his achievement in front of the friends and family that attended.

The video has been viewed over 6,000 times on Facebook and has impacted many of the people who have watched.

“So beautiful, but so heartbreaking at the same time. I’ve had to pause this several times to get myself together,” commented one person.

Another wrote: “This is the sweetest, most thoughtful and loving thing I think I have ever seen.”

According to a member of the family, it was Northcott’s last wish to watch her “baby boy graduate from high school and they made her wish come true.”
