American footballer Alex Morgan has announced she is expecting her first child with husband Servando Carrasco.

Morgan, who won gold with the US national team at this year’s Women’s World Cup in France, made the announcement with an Instagram post.

The picture shared on the social media platform shows Morgan standing alongside fellow footballer Carrasco with a chalkboard that reads: “Baby girl April 2020”. They're both also holding up a babygrow emblazoned with the slogan: “Ready or not.”

In her caption, Morgan stated that the “newest member of the Carrasco family” is “coming soon”.

“We are already in love and we haven’t even met her yet,” the football star said.

Carrasco, who plays for LA Galaxy, also shared a post on Instagram in celebration of their news.

“Can’t wait to meet my baby girl,” he wrote, alongside a picture of him, Morgan and their two dogs.

Thousands Instagram users rushed to wish the athletic couple congratulations on the news of their upcoming arrival, including several of Morgan's teammates.

“Could not love this more if I tried,” wrote Canadian footballer Shelina Zadorsky.

“The most beautiful baby girl in the making woooooo,” commented American defender Carson Pickett.

Earlier this year, Morgan appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with her teammate Megan Rapinoe.

Their inclusion in the magazine highlighted the importance of striving for equal pay in football.

In July, Morgan spoke to New York sports television network SNY about achieving equal pay in football.

“I feel like we’re more than just a soccer team, we’re America’s team in a way, seeing everyone celebrate and support us through these successes,” said the footballer.

“And knowing that so much rides on our success in terms of equal pay and being at the forefront of everything and speaking up for important issues that we feel so passionate about.”
