An eyebrow treatment company has apologised for a “diet tip” posted on Instagram which suggested people spend money on their eyebrows at the expense of food.

“Diet tip: Spend all your money on brows so you have none left to buy food,” the post read.

However after coming under criticism for the “tip,” the company has now deleted the post and issued an apology.

A spokesperson for HD Brows told The Independent: “Our recent post didn’t follow our usual rigorous approval procedure. As soon as it was brought to our attention we removed the post and we have personally apologised to those who contacted us directly.

“The post was an error of judgement and we’re grateful that this was brought to our attention. We are a British brand who believe in empowering women and we cannot apologise enough for any distress this post may have caused.”

Various people called out the brand for the “irresponsible” post, including the body positive I Weigh account, launched by actor and presenter Jameela Jamil.

“@hdbrowsofficial we are calling you OUT! This is damaging and we don’t wish to see it,” wrote Jamil. “We want harmful social media posts like this removed.”

They then went on to thank HD Brows for removing the post and apologising.

“We would never want to motivate a negative body image and we should have considered the connotations this kind of message may have,” HD Brows told I Weigh. “We want to inspire and motivate woman to feel positive and beautiful, never anything else. We made a mistake and we’re sorry.”

However the apology didn’t stop other people expressing their outrage at the post being published in the first place.

“That post is unbelievably irresponsible!” wrote one person.

“This is literally ana [anorexia] tips but in advertisement form,” added another.

“As if someone would even post this. Makes my blood boil,” commented another Instagram user.

However some also praised the company for admitting they made a mistake.
