Twitter down: Website and app not working as users fail to load new tweets

Twitter has stopped working, according to some of its users.

People were struggling to both load and post tweets, amid what appeared to be technical problems.

Some also saw an error message that indicated there was server problems that could be causing the site not to work properly.

Others reported that the site was working as normal. Yet more said it did initially appear to be working as normal – but the tweets that were showing were actually old.

Tracking website Down Detector showed a vast number of reports all of a sudden, as the issue apparently affected users across the world.

The problems were particularly prevalent in the UK, the east coast of the US, and Japan – but it may simply be that most users are online in those places.

Twitter was once known for its prevalent outages, and the "fail whale" that would show to users during them. But over the years, as it has grown, it has become more stable and less prone to technical issues.
