Newly leaked images have provided the clearest look at Google’s new smartphones we’ve had so far.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 are set to be unveiled tomorrow, as rivals to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Note 8, and Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8.

A new batch of pictures posted online by tech tipster Evan Blass suggest the larger XL model will be the more advanced of the two.

It’s expected to feature a 6-inch, 2,880 x 1,440 display and slightly slimmer bezels than the original XL, which was widely criticised for its rather plain design.

Though the new model is undoubtedly more attractive, it doesn’t looks quite as slick as the S8, Note 8 or iPhone X.

It will be available in black and black-and-white colour schemes, the latter of which looks excellent.

From a design perspective, the Pixel 2 doesn’t appear to have changed much from last year’s model. Its bezels are very prominent, making the handset look clunky and somewhat outdated compared to many of 2017’s flagships.

Its 5-inch screen is also expected to have a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. That’s perfectly adequate, but identical to the original Pixel’s display.

According to Mr Blass, both handsets will come with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, and a 12-megapixel rear camera.

Citing “a person familiar with Google’s release plans”, he says the Pixel 2 will be released on 19 October, with the Pixel XL 2 following almost a month later, on 15 November.
