From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Apple has confirmed that they will be holding a launch event next week on the 22nd October.

The Californian tech company will most likely reveal updates to the iPad and iPad mini, as well as offer launch dates for the latest update to their operating system OS X Mavericks and their high-end desktop, the Mac Pro.

The date was first leaked by tech blog AllThingsD but has now been confirmed with the invitation to San Francisco on the 22nd. The invites themselves suggest the launch of multiple items, with the slogan ‘We still have a lot to cover.’

The main news will be the updated iPads, with the mini expected to be given a Retina-quality screen and a fingerprint sensor (like that found in the iPhone 5s) embedded into the home button. The iPad 5 is also expected to include the new sensor, as well as the 64-bit A7 chip also introduced with the new iPhones.

It’s also rumoured that both the iPad and the mini will be made available in the ‘Space Grey’ and gold colourings.

The launch will start 10.00am PDT – that’s 17.00pm here in the UK. Tune in here on the 22nd for all the news as it emerges.
