From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The "BET Hip Hop Awards" is the most talked-about topic on Twitter on the morning of October 13.

The awards show aired on American TV network BET (Black Entertainment Television) on October 12 and people are tweeting about the event.

"BET Hip Hop Awards was a giant random mess. I've never seen an award show with as many random acts as this one," posted one Twitter user.

American horror film " Paranormal Activity" is a term being promoted on Twitter to advertise the release of the sequel, Paranormal Activity 2, which is due to start screening in the US on October 22.

The terms "Humpty Dumpty" and "Laffy Taffy" are trending in third and fourth places whilst " Colored Girls," referring to a new movie written and directed by Tyler Perry, For Colored Girls, is in ninth place.

Californian hip hop group "Cali Swag District" is trending in fifth place and alternative rap group "Digital Underground" is trending in seventh place.

"Too 'many urkels' on ya team that's why ya wins low" - a quote microbloggers are attributing to American rapper Kayne West - is in sixth place. Kayne West's "Music Cypher" (a style of cyclical freestyle rap) at the BET Hip Hop awards has also got microbloggers tweeting.

People on Twitter are asking "How is RIP Tupac a #TT his death date was last month not this month," curious as to why the rapper's name is in tenth place on the charts.
