From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Following the news of the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Google map users have updated the location service with details of the terrorist's hideout.

Users of Google Maps have added the alleged position of Osama's former hideout under the location "Osama Bin Laden's Compound, near Abbotabad, Pakistan." The location can be viewed at http://bit.ly/kdiWIo.

Though the location when viewed on satellite imagery does look a little suspect, it is not known if this was the actual location of the terrorist leader's hideout.

Around 35 people have reviewed the location; reviews include "Free HBO, but 'death to America!' chants were getting old," and "great hideout would use again."

Osama bin Laden was killed by American lead forces in a raid on May 2, with social networkers in Pakistan unwittingly live-tweeting the events beginning at around 1:00am local time.
