From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But while the usual tipples – think prosecco, eggnog and mulled wine – might peak our interest for a while, sometimes all you want is a refreshing cocktail that harks back to hotter climes.
Enter a cocktail that brings you the best of both worlds; White Christmas Margaritas.
A concoction devised by foodie website Delish, the cold-weather cocktail takes everything we know and love about the traditional margarita and enhances it with the very best bits of the new season.
And, while it might be an instant holiday classic, this version is far more substantial with the addition of sweet, creamy coconut milk meaning you get to enjoy those summer flavours but with a lot more body.
So, how do you make them?
To create your very own ‘White Christmas Margarita’ simply combine coconut milk (14-oz), silver tequila (12 oz.), lime juice (1/2 c.), triple sec (8oz.), and ice (2 c.) in a blender and pulse until you’re left with a smooth, frozen brew.
Then, rim your glass of choice with a lime wedge and dip into sanding sugar for that classic margarita finish.
Pour your mixture into the glasses and garnish with lime segments and vibrant cranberries.
