From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Photographs of a range of off-menu dishes have been circulating on social media and it’s safe to say that people are pretty excited by the culinary revelations.
From to the delicious garlic bread bun to the urban legend that is the Nando's burrito, the world is your peri peri-soaked oyster if you put your mind to it.
In case you didn't get the memo – which you shouldn't have because it’s secret – the secret menu is the biggest thing to happen to fast food since, erm, fast food.
McDonalds, Starbucks and Chipotle all boast off-menu dishes of their own, so it was only a matter of time until Nando’s got on board the hush-hush train.
Here are some of the delicacies you can order from Nando’s if you’re in the know.
Nando’s burrito
Make any meal a burrito by asking for it in a wrap with rice on the side.
When the wrap arrives, simply stuff the rice inside and you’ve got yourself a bona fide burrito.
Cheesy mash
Make your mash a cheesy cloud of heaven by simply asking for an added slice of cheese and allowing it to melt into the fluffy carbohydrate goodness.
Cheesy garlic bread
Similar to the above, you can invigorate the humble Nando’s garlic bread by requesting a few slices of cheese and simply – you guessed it – placing them on top of the warm bread.
Science says that the cheese will melt and create a party of flavours in your mouth.
Garlic bread bun
Less of a secret menu hack and more of a culinary DIY project, the garlic bread bun is created by simply ordering a side of garlic bread and sandwiching your burger in between the slices, replacing your normal bun with a world of garlicky goodness.
For the real daredevils amongst you, if you add a dash of peri peri to your creation you could even make it a Garinaise burger, as one fan termed it.
