KFC to reopen 500 UK and Ireland outlets by the end of this week - here’s the full list

Fast food chain has been out of business for almost two months

KFC has announced that it will have reopened more than 500 of its branches across the UK and Ireland by the end of this week.

The fast food chain was forced to close in March after prime minister Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown but in recent weeks it has started gradually reopening outlets.

Now, KFC has pledged to open more than 500 branches by the end of this week, with the hope of having all 900 restaurants back in operation shortly.

The restaurants will offer a limited menu available for either click and collect, drive-thru or home delivery via Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats, with the KFC website detailing which outposts are currently open.

KFC has been offering a limited menu since it began reopening restaurants in order to help maintain social distancing with smaller kitchen teams.

It also states that “stringent processes and hygiene measures” are in place, including increased hand washing and surface sanitising, contactless handover of food and the installation of protective screens where appropriate.

Announcing the move, Paula MacKenzie, general manager at KFC UK and Ireland, said: “500 restaurants reopening is a huge milestone. It’s credit to the hard work of all of our amazing teams in restaurant and we wanted to celebrate the moment.”

MacKenzie also commented on the number of people who have been sharing their attempts to recreate the Colonel’s recipe during lockdown on social media using the hashtag #ratemykfc.

The fast food chain was so impressed with people’s home cooking efforts that it has unveiled a new advert featured some of the best, and worst, entries.

“We’ve loved seeing the nation’s homemade efforts whilst we’ve been away, so including a few of them in our new ad is the perfect tribute,” MacKenzie said. “Some of the creations looked incredible, some less so...now that we’re back on delivery, probably best we take it from here!”

KFC is among a number of chains that have started to reopen in recent days, having been out of business for almost two months.

Burger King, McDonald’s, Nando's, Pret A Manger, Starbucks and Subway have all either reopened sites for delivery and takeaway or announced plans to do so soon.
