Luckily everyone saw the funny side

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Everyone knows not to wear white to a wedding for fear of resembling the bride, but there’s no way of making sure you won’t be in a similar or - God forbid - the same outfit to another wedding guest.
So spare a thought for the six guests who arrived at a wedding in the very same dress over the weekend.
The dress in question was a navy and blue number from Australian clothes brand, Forever New.
It’s called the Debbie Lace pencil dress, and costs $159.99 (£95).
Fortunately the hilarious turn of events was taken in good spirits by all involved, and has provoked much amusement online after one of the guests posted an image on Facebook.
“You really should start a bridal registry so that your customers can enquire whether anyone else has purchased one of your dresses for the same event,” Debbie Speranza wrote on the Facebook page of Forever New, with three “crying with laughter” emojis.
“No we are NOT the bridesmaids just the guests - think I deserve a gift voucher for all this advertisement,” she joked.
Whilst some people commented saying the situation would be their “worst nightmare,” the majority found the photo funny.
“What a laugh!” one person wrote. “But what did you say to the guests wearing something else? Did they feel like they’d missed the message?”
And some women even revealed they had - or had nearly bought - the same dress.
“Wore this dress on the weekend,” one woman shared.
“Was this the one you just bought?” another woman asked her friend, who replied: “Oh what!!! Yes it is! So funny, hope this doesn’t happen to me.”
After that Zara dress and coat, it’s clear the women of the world have a thing for blue.
