Go hard or go chrome: This season it's all about metallic silver nails

This Autumn ditch the berry reds and get your shine on

When it comes to new releases in the beauty world nail polish is perhaps the most saturated and overwhelming category, especially at the start of a new season.

Autumn tends to call for deep berry reds, aubergine or black lacquered tips but not this time round. Oh no, for 2016 fall’s signature shade is remarkably less obvious.

Chrome or silver nails have been huge this year from Gigi’s £1400 Met Gala mirrored mani to Instagram’s obsession with holographic powder polishes but, it was on the runway that a return to modest metallics really shone.

There’s something so very futuristic, space-age even about a silver digit especially when it’s crafted like those seen at Opening Ceremony and Adam Selman. The former opted for icicle dripping nails with a layer of silver polish that began to peel at the edges while Selman took his all over notwithstanding with the addition of a crescent moon black cuticle.

The chromatic half-moon was spotted at Creatures of the Wind too but this time it was golden and sat upon a silver base. Jill Stuart on the other hand offered a touch of rebellion with moodier, gun metal silver on super short nails.

Thankfully, all our favourite beauty brands have released their own version of silver polish, from pearlescent tip-offs to full-on shimmery metallic, so achieving this look is a cinch. Go simple with all-over colour or take your cue from the catwalk and try out some nail art; to achieve the dual toned look, use a chrome coloured polish as the base and a crescent moon at the cuticle in whichever shade you so desire.
