Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Apple Watch might have designed an exclusive 18-carat gold special edition for Karl Lagerfeld, but it's Tom Ford who has given the wearable gadget a sartorial overhaul.

The American designer has created his very own Apple Pocket Watch; the digital watch is attached to a silver chain through a silver loop on the top side, instead of the bright wrist strap it usually comes with. The innovative timepiece was introduced to the world at his London Collections: Men show last week – giving it another fashion-forward spin off.

More than being completely functional, the design is about adapting to the most traditional of tailoring, just like his menswear collection, which will launch online for the first time globally on mrporter.com, and his womenswear on net-a-porter.com. But some functions, such as the heart rate sensor, need the skin-to-watch contact and are disabled when the watch is kept in a pocket – and it will also be automatically locked.

But nevermind that, we think that Ford’s celebrity following, which includes Jay Z, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora and a gang of Hollywood stars, are likely to adopt his digital creation to their wardrobes.

Tom Ford is also the man behind James Bond’s sharp attire, with Daniel Craig sporting his designs in Skyfall and upcoming Spectre - so we won’t be surprised if we spot Mr Bond sporting the ultimate pocket watch.
