Choupette, a white Siamese cat that has 27,000 Twitter followers, is the creative director of Chanel’s most prized possession.
“There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals… I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat,” Lagerfeld told CNN’s Fashion Week: Backstage Pass.
When he was asked whether there was any truth to tales about Choupette having three maids and flying by private jet, he said: “Yes. Why not?” However, he said he wasn’t concerned that the famous cat would become more famous than him.
The beloved pet’s maids take down everything the cat does in notebooks so that Lagerfeld can check up on how she’s faring while he’s away. In nine months, the maids’ detailed notes ran to 600 pages.
Employing three maids to care for one cat might seem ridiculous, but the designer is known for employing staff that other people might deem superfluous.
Last year, it was claimed he had brought on board a “soda serf”, whose sole duty it was to follow him around at parties carrying a glass of Pepsi Max on a silver tray.
