From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. John Galliano is to make his long-awaited return to the fashion industry with his debut show for Maison Martin Margiela in London on 12 January.

Galliano, who took over at Margiela in October, will present the brand's couture 'Artisanal' collection for the house in London, rather than Paris where he was expected to show during the upcoming spring/summer 2015 haute couture presentations at the end of January, according to Business of Fashion.

The designer made his first public debut since returning to the industry at The British Fashion Awards which took place in London last week.

Galliano was on hand to present Anna Wintour with the Outstanding Achievement Awards with Wintour herself showed her support for the designer by wearing one of his designs.

Margiela is not the only brand separating from the traditional Paris couture schedule with Valentino due to present a haute couture collection in New York this evening.

Dolce & Gabbana also made the decision to take its couture offering elsewhere, showing in Capri, Italy.

Galliano was dismissed from his role at Christian Dior in 2011 following a drunken anti-semitic outburst in a Paris bar.

At the time of his appointment to Margiela, Renzo Rosso, President of OTB Group which is the parent company of Maison Martin Margiela, told WWD: “Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul… John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time — a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion.”
