Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

KARL LAGERFELD still loves the supermodels. The Chanel show this week started with a rap chant, called 'Supermodel', which reeled off their names - 'Claudia, Cindy, Christie, Naomi' - to a disco beat.

Linda Evangelista, whose appearances for Chanel last year made her so popular that Lagerfeld christened his then-favourite colour 'Linda green', did not get a mention, and has been absent from the catwalk this season.

Instead, the new hot Canadian is Shalom, who designers are busy manoeuvring into the 'brunette beauty' slot left vacant by Linda Evangelista's absence.

Also in town is little Kate Moss, who is small for a supermodel and positively tiny for a traditional couture model. In the Yves Saint Laurent show yesterday, she became the first model to walk straight down the catwalk.

A large, low-slung chandelier hangs over the platform. Models frequently veer round, duck under or catch hats and hairpieces on this obstacle. Kate didn't even have to swerve.
