Miley Cyrus is kicking off the start of a new year with a fresh hairstyle.

On Monday, the "Slide Away" singer unveiled a new look for 2020 while announcing she would be releasing new music soon alongside a series of photographs posted to Instagram.

In the images, the 27-year-old struck a variety of poses wearing a pair of high-waisted jeans, a simple white T-shirt, and black retro-style sunglasses.

“New hair. New year. NEW MUSIC,” Cyrus wrote in the caption.

The singer’s new hairstyle resembles the one her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, sported in the. 1990s, albeit with a modern twist.

The front and sides of Cyrus’s hair are decidedly shorter than the back, however, the contrast is less harsh than original versions of the retro haircut thanks to a textured fringe and feathered layers.

The star’s social media followers appeared to approve of the new hairstyle, with one calling it “cool” and another saying it “rocks”.

“The hair is everything,” one person commented on the photo.

Another added: “You know when Miley cuts her hair a new era starts. YASS QUEEN!”

Cyrus isn’t the only star who is helping to put mullets back on the map. In November, 17-year-old singer Billie Eilish debuted her take on the hairstyle at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, while Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira also had a mullet at New York Fashion Week.

The hair transformation comes just weeks after Cyrus settled her divorce with Liam Hemsworth.

Hemsworth filed for divorce from Cyrus in August 2019 after getting married eight months earlier, on 23 Dec 2018.

On 10 Aug, a representative for the “Wrecking Ball” singer confirmed that the couple had split.

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” the statement read.

“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."
