The news of American designer Kate Spade’s death has continued to send shock waves through the fashion world, with an influx of tributes pouring in across social media.

Spade has been a household name in the fashion industry ever since the creation of her eponymous brand in 1993, best-known for her classic handbag designs.

Twitter users have been expressing their sorrow over the designer's passing by sharing fond memories of the first Kate Spade bag that they ever owned, demonstrating the impact that the brand has had over the last 25 years.

Author, Melanie Benjamin, posted a photo of herself posing with a Kate Spade bag explaining the inspirational circumstances that led to its purchase.

“True story: One of my dreams was to own a #KateSpade handbag and I vowed that if I ever made the NY Times Best Seller List, I would buy one,” she wrote.

Another individual revealed that a bag that he’d bought for his significant other had come with a surprise note inside.

“The first gift I bought the love of my life was a Kate Spade bag and I remember inside there was a card with the quote ‘She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes’,” Francis Maxwell wrote.

“It encapsulated the girl I love perfectly. She had a way of encapsulating magnificence. Thoughts with her [Kate Spade’s] family.”

“Kate’s designs made women everywhere smile and feel beautiful,” one person commented.

“KS [Kate Spade] has brought me so much joy over the years,” another Twitter user expressed.

“That might sound silly, but I’ve always bought KS bags and etc for myself and loved ones as big life mile markers when I was able to.”

Chelsea Clinton also tweeted about her personal connection to the brand, revealing that her grandmother gifted her with a Kate Spade bag when she was in college.

Spade was found unresponsive at her New York apartment, police confirmed.

She passed away on 5 June at the age of 55.
