Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The hair/make up

Rebecca Gonsalves: The former queen of the pixie cut continues to shine, follically, with an artfully messy bun and a million kirby grips.

Hugh Montgomery: Messy, but also not-messing. It's almost a paradox.

The skirt

Rebecca: An interesting bit of origami around the waist balances out the plain white vest, providing a clear smart/casual border.

Hugh: Or to put it another way, ruffles have rarely been this fashionable.

The top

Rebecca: Euro 2006 era WAGs rejoice, the lacy-lingerie-peeking-over-a-scoop-neckline-look has returned.

Hugh: The danger with a white vest is food spills: one minute you're all simple elegance, the next you're Onslow from 'Keeping up Appearances'.

The shoes

Rebecca: A bit bondage, a bit gladiator, a bit too exposed for New York in February. Frostbite does not need to make a comeback.

Hugh: Yes, and circulation is an all-too-rarely discussed issue vis-à-vis awards season.
