Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The hair

Rebecca Gonsalves: It may look low-maintenance but J-Lo isn't – especially not with those golden highlights.

Hugh Montgomery: An unyielding-looking bun: a rock bun, if you will.

The dress

Rebecca: The bandage dress has moved up a gear, and it takes Lopez's toned body and well-flexed confidence to pull this off with aplomb.

Hugh: It's good – but, as ever with J-Lo dresses from 2000 onwards, it's not the one with the palm trees. And that makes us sad.

The accessories

Rebecca: Jenny from the Block is nothing if not a fan of statement jewellery. The clean lines of these gold cuffs and bangles keep things modern.

Hugh: The real question this raises is: how has J-Lo not yet starred in a campy swords- and-sandals epic?

The shoes

Rebecca: Patent pumps add just the right hint of ladylike chic to balance the barely there-ness of the dress.

Hugh: She is at an 'American Idol' live party: of course, her shoes are gong to be S-H-I-N-Y.
