From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With the Academy Awards just couple of weeks away, we predict how the stars will style their hair on the red carpet.

Yes, it’s officially awards season and February brings the Baftas, Grammys and the most anticipated film awards of the year - the Oscars.

We’ve already done a round-up of the gowns that are most likely to be worn on the night, based on the Paris haute couture shows, but it’s now time to think about the hairstyles that will influence trends this year.

Based on last month’s ceremonies, which included the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Critic’s Choice Awards, four styles dominated the red carpet; sleek waves, vintage inspired curls, bohemian braids and sleek pony tails.

Emma Stone at the SAG awards and Amy Adams at the Critic’s Choice Awards both opted for sleek pony tails. For Jennifer Aniston and Emily Blunt at the Critic’s Choice Awards the look was sleek, natural-looking waves, while Amal Clooney and Allison Williams at the Golden Globes chose a more vintage curl.

A more bohemian approach was taken by Keira Knightley and Joanne Froggatt at Golden Globes who both opted for the messy braids.

Good news is that these trends are all possible to recreate at home, without the help of an A-list hairdresser provided you have the right tools.
