Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What are you wearing right now?

I've got on a black suede jacket and a white T-shirt, some black jeans which I customised and black leather Chuck Taylor high-tops by Converse. It's pretty much my uniform, and works for whatever I'm doing every day.

Who's your style icon?

Huh?

What can't you live without?

Really, I love Starbucks. Maybe that's a bit sad. But I definitely need my caffeine. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning. That, and sex.

Describe the best outfit you have ever worn.

Head-to-toe Royal Underground, customised especially for an awards ceremony recently. I looked very rock & roll – smart, but still edgy and dangerous.

What's in your wardrobe?

You might be surprised, but no leather pants. Actually, I don't own a single pair. I have tons of Chuck Taylors though in black and brown leather, and about 1000 ripped T-shirts, worn and torn just the way I like them. I have about 20 of the best jackets from Royal Underground, too – I'm addicted to our jackets, to be honest with you.

What's in your make-up bag?

A knife. [Dress Code would like to point out that this is a health and safety hazard]

If you could live in any decade, style-wise, which would it be?

1970s, hands down – they rocked back then. And they didn't care. They had their shirts off a lot of the time, that's a look that I've experimented with a lot in the past. I love all those classic rockers and the vibe that was around back then – it was such a cool era.

How often do you look in the mirror?

I try not to. I'm not bothered by my appearance.

Any fashion confessions to share with us?

Apart from taking my shirt off and wearing ripped jeans? That I don't try and I don't care – style comes from the inside, you can't just put it on in the morning. I can't stand people who try too hard.

What's your secret style tip?

Don't try to be in, that's the quickest way to be out. Stick to what you know, and don't wear stuff just because you think you should.
