This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

With Halloween just around the corner, we look back at celebrity inspiration to get the spooky costumes ready.

Supermodel Heidi Klum is possibly one of the celebrities that takes her costumes very seriously every year, she’s known as the “Halloween Queen” for a reason and she even hosted a star-studded Halloween party last year. Her outstanding costumes range from Cleopatra to Hindu goddess and last year she appeared unrecognisable dressed up as the aged version of herself (think Heidi in 40 years time).

She tops our list of the best dressed celebs on Halloween eve, but Kim Kardashian dressed as cat woman and sexy leopard (yes, she embraces the feline theme frequently) and Alexa Chung as beheaded Marie Antoinette serve too as inspiration for spooky outfits. Other celebrity costumes, like Klum as superhero robot, Katy Perry as Daria and designer Jeremy Scott as Fred Flinstone get into a more creative territory.

If you’re struggling to put your Halloween outfit together, get some inspiration from Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Alexa Chung.
