Catwalk beauty: Take inspiration from the best in the beauty business and face the new season in style

There's plenty of fun to be had in experimenting with a bit of powder and paint

Catwalk beauty usually falls into one of two categories. In the hands of the professionals, a barely-there base simply emphasises the preternatural good looks of genetically blessed young models. (In real life, the "natural" look often needs a ridiculous number of products to fake an ostensibly fresh face.) Then there are the tried-and-tested colour stories that return every season: berry shades for autumn, pink and pastels for spring.

The lesser-spotted third way is altogether more extreme. For the Jacquemus show this season, artist Sebastian Bieniek drew an extra visage on the models' faces. Undoubtedly amazing, though not one to try at home. But as catwalk clothes are often toned down for real life, so too are the creative cosmetics, and there's plenty of fun to be had in experimenting with a bit of powder and paint. Whatever your approach, take inspiration from the best in the beauty business and face the new season in style.

Coloursens Nude Lipstick

£6.99, Maybelline, boots.com

The Max Mara collection was inspired by Marilyn Monroe, and that extends to the makeup palette, too, with delicate pink lips and the merest hint of a feline eye.

Chromacake in Pure White

£22, Mac Pro, maccosmetics.co.uk

The Marques/Almeida duo's celebration of the 1990s was enhanced by lashings of white lashes: mix this pigment with Mac's Prep + Prime to recreate the look.

Mono eyeshadow in Pyramid

£7, topshop.com

At Temperley London, spare sequins were used to gild eyelids – but opt for a shimmery shadow if you don't want to unpick your party dress.

Fluid Shadow in 275 Cosmic

£26.50, Dior Beauty, 020 7216 0216

The bold eyeshadow at the Christian Dior show is easy to achieve at home thanks to the brand's new liquid shadows, which glide on and stay on.
