From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Last night the glittering stars of the TV world descended onto the Los Angeles for the 69th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Stephen Colbert.

While the evening is all about celebrating the achievements of those in the TV industry, the outfits donned by celebrity nominees and guests has always been a key talking point of the event.

With some of the world's most high profile actors in attendance - Nicola Kidman, Viola Davis and Susan Sarandon to name a few - the red carpet provides designers with an incomparable platform to showcase some of their latest creations.

Jessica Biel

Zac Posen and Carolina Herrera were two of the most popular names worn by this year's roster of A-listers, but it was Jessica Biel's breathtaking Ralph & Russo Couture gown that took centre stage.

A billowing dusty pink number, with girlish drapings offset by lashings of shimmering silver and a high thigh slit.

Substantial style points for sure.

Zoe Kravitz

One of the biggest winners on the night was Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz.

Whilst the popular book-turned-miniseries racked up a total of five awards - the cast were no less deserving sartorially.

Kravitz turned heads in a heavily-feathered Dior gown whilst Woodley chanelled old-school Hollywood in an autumnal Ralph Lauren creation whilst Kidman opted for show-stopping scarlet Calvin Klein.

Viola Davis

Another winner in the style category was Viola Davis, who was nominated for her role in How To Get Away With Murder.

The Academy-Award winning actor stunned in a tangerine Zac Posen gown, managing to radiate without even the slightest semblance of a fruit bowl faux pas.
