Vanessa Hudgens slammed for 'heartless' comments about coronavirus

Chrissy Teigen has defended Vanessa Hudgens from backlash after the actress made “insensitive” comments about coronavirus.

Earlier this week, Hudgens faced criticism after telling her more than 38.4m Instagram followers that it is “terrible but inevitable” that people are going to die from coronavirus.

“Yeah, ‘til July sounds like a bunch of bulls***, I’m sorry,” the actress said during an Instagram Live video. “But like, it’s a virus, I get it, I respect it, but at the same time, like – even if everybody gets it... Like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible, but like - inevitable?”

On Tuesday, Teigen came to Hudgens’ defence on Twitter, where she said that the High School Musical star will learn from her mistakes.

“Sometimes people, especially famous people, are gonna say really stupid sh*t. And so are you. And they, and you, will learn from it and hopefully their history says they’re good,” Teigen tweeted. “It’s ok. And at the same time, wow they really had a dumb f***ing moment. But you don’t have to ruin their lives.”

Teigen added: “This isn’t about me this time. But it will be one day, or it’ll be you. But yeah today it’s Vanessa lol."

The model then addressed those who were targeting online harassment towards Hudgens over her comments, telling them to “just stop”.

“And no, life is rarely ruined for anyone. But you are damn well trying your best. Just stop,” she tweeted.

Teigen’s decision to step in comes after Hudgens issued a public apology on the social media platform for her comments, which she said were “insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now”.

“I’m so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram Live yesterday,” the 31-year-old actress wrote in a statement shared to Twitter, adding that the response has been a “huge wake-up call”.

“I’m sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time,” she concluded.
