Cardi B has revealed that she suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter Kulture Kiari.

The rapper, 26, opened up about her experience post-childbirth in an interview with Harper Bazaar for the March cover issue.

According to Cardi, she originally felt fine after giving birth to her daughter in July - and thought she was going to “avoid” developing the common condition.

“I thought I was going to avoid it,” she revealed to the magazine. “When I gave birth, the doctor told me about postpartum, and I was like: ‘Well, I’m doing good right now, I don’t think that’s going to happen.

“But out of nowhere, the world was heavy on my shoulders.”

The new mother has previously discussed the condition before.

In August, the outspoken star acknowledged her postpartum depression on Instagram, writing: “This postpartum s**t is annoying,” according to US magazine.

The "Money" rapper also dropped out of a tour she was meant to go on with Bruno Mars shortly after the birth of her daughter, when she realised she was not mentally or physically prepared.

At the time, she shared her decision on Instagram, explaining: “I thought that after giving birth to my daughter, that six weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically.”

The 26-year-old’s reluctance to leave her daughter at home was also a factor in her decision - as she was “not ready to leave my baby behind”.

In the recent interview, the rapper also opened up about the physical changes she’s noticed after her pregnancy.

In addition to feeling as if she hasn’t regained her balance and is still holding on to baby weight, Cardi also told the magazine her energy hasn’t returned.

“There’s an energy I haven’t gotten back yet that I had before I was pregnant. It’s just the weirdest thing,” she said.

Postpartum depression often leads to symptoms such as insomnia, feelings of anxiety, and difficulty bonding with the baby, according to the Mayo Clinic. It can be treated with medication and counselling.
