The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child on Monday 6 May, announcing his full name just two days later: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The proud parents revealed the royal baby’s moniker on Instagram on Wednesday following their first public appearance as a family at Windsor Castle.

Alongside a photograph of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry introducing the child to his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the Duke of Edinburgh and Meghan’s’ mother Doria Ragland, the caption read: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

The couple’s choice of name has garnered plenty of reaction online, with many showing their love for the newest addition to the royal family.

However, people who share the name Archie delivered mix responses to the news.

Many were happy that Meghan and Harry chose such a “good” name, with some saying they were proud to share the moniker with the royal baby.

“Good call”, one person named Archie wrote on Twitter.

Another added: “Same name as me!!! Best name ever!”

While a third commented: “Well, I am happy we share the same name.”

But not all Archie’s in the world were pleased with the choice, with some going as far as to say they wanted to legally change their name.

“Can’t believe they’ve nicked my name,” one Twitter user commented.

A second added: “The royal baby is called Archie? I’m legally changing my name.”

Another person wrote: “F***. Is there anyone I can appeal to about this?”

Even some famous Archie’s responded to the news.

In the US, where Meghan was born and raised, people associated the royal baby’s name with Archie Andrews, a popular red-headed cartoon character that made his debut in Archie Comics in 1941.

“I'm baby,” Archie Comics posted on its official Twitter account, moments after the name was announced.

The character’s story has also been adapted for television in the modern-day teen drama series Riverdale.

As a result, the sitcom reacted by Tweeting: “Proud to be Archie”.
