These cosy velvet styles and spacious quilted designs are practical and stylish
Whether you’ve had a four-legged friend as part of your family for years, or you brought home your first pet during lockdown, it’s hard not to spoil them.
Thankfully, pet stores and Amazon are no longer the only places you can shop for creature comforts, whether it's practical necessities or toys to treat them with.
The high street has expanded into affordable and stylish pet accessories that won’t stick out like a sore thumb in your home, while still keeping your pet’s comfort top priority. Most notably, fashion favourite Zara recently launched a pet collection.
Even budget supermarket Aldi has got in on the action, having unveiled two scalloped pet bed designs starting from just £39.99.
Not to be outdone, Next has joined the party with a brand new collection of beds for your cats and dogs inspired by its classic sofas.

This chic style is based on Next’s gold swivel-base accent chair (£299, Next.co.uk) and is sure to make a stylish addition to your living room. The gold base adds a trendy touch and the soft velvet fabric is sure to keep pets comfortable for their afternoons spent dozing and watching TV. It’s also available in a bottle green shade (£120, Next.co.uk), if you were keen to add an air of opulence to your pet’s space.
Just think how handsome your dog will look on this plush “sterling red” checked miniature sofa. Also available in grey, it’s practically regal. There’s a wide seat pad to suit larger animals and give them enough room to stretch out comfortably, and armrests for them to rest their heads. If you’re a fan of the print, you can peruse the retailer’s entire Sherlock range, which is full of complementary pieces.
At the lower end of the price range is this plush, royal blue bed that’s minimal in its design and perfect for your pup to cosy up on after a long walk. It has wooden legs that give it a slight platform but also mean it’ll be easy to lift up and hoover underneath if your pet is a serial moulter. It’s also a rather nice way of adding colour to your living room, and a much lower price than buying a whole new sofa for yourself. The rest of the Wilson range features similar stylish designs, if you were looking to splash out.
With sturdy back and a quilted design, this grey wool bed looks so comfortable that even we are keen to curl up on it. It has the classic touches of a heritage-style sofa that’s truly timeless. It’s also ideal if you don’t trust your pet with more lavish fabrics like velvet. The version for humans (£1,250, Next.co.uk) is almost identical, just on a larger scale.
Let’s face it, pets have had to put up with our constant attention for the last year while we’ve been under lockdown, so, if anything, they deserve a treat for their patience. This cosy bed is a standard size so it will fit a range of small- and medium-sized animals and is perfect for getting a good night’s sleep.
