While Sleeper launched in 2014, it wasn’t until 2019 when it really started to take off. And by the time lockdown hit in 2020, no Instagram feed was left untouched by the presence of its signature party pyjamas (which took the top spot in our guide to women’s loungewear). Come summer, it was the perfect linen dresses in an array of prints and colours, designed to fall perfectly off the shoulder.
Whether it was Hollywood stars or your friend down the road, the brand’s signature puff sleeved midi dress have been seen on just about everyone, and we loved it so much we had to include in our review of the best women’s linen clothing.
And now, Sleeper had branched out further, designing pieces for our homes. As continued lockdowns means we’ve all spent more time at home than ever before, the pandemic has reinvigorated our interest in interiors.
As a result, an increased number of fashion brands (both luxury and high street) have entered the market, including Erdem and Mango (which is launching its debut homeware line in April 2021).
At a point when our homes are our everything, Sleeper’s range allows you to keep your living space decorated to the highest standard. The collection – which includes scented candles, ceramics, embroidered home textile pieces and a new loungewear set – is inspired by the founder’s homeland, Ukraine.
What’s more, included within every piece you order is an unassuming piece of card, read it carefully and you’ll realise it can be planted for “magic to happen”. Simply tear it into four equal pieces, plant in moist soil and in two weeks, the brand promises you’ll see flowers starting to sprout. An ingenious touch.
But that’s not all, each product comes in its own linen bag – whether it’s the brand’s signature black or a floral or gingham print that ties together and can be used for everything and anything. Luckily, we got our hands on some of the products to give you our verdict.
You can trust our independent reviews. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.
Sleeper tender fighter set: £121.50
With the launch of its homeware collection, Sleeper dropped this new set made from 100 per cent silk. As you’d expect from such a high-end product, the fit is perfect for nightwear – the shorts feature an elasticated waisted band and a relaxed and oversized cut, while the top is soft against the skin and comfortable. The latter features adjustable straps, and while designed to be worn around the house, we’ll certainly be pairing with jeans on a warm summer’s day.
At more than £35 this is of course a high-end addition to your home, but if you’re looking for a luxury candle it’s certainly a lovely addition. The scent of wild flowers and herbs is subtle yet carries well and reminded us of evenings spent in the countryside. But, if you’d rather there’s also the option of the white herbal apothecary candle for serenity and tranquillity, while the third has been designed to be reminiscent of the scent of a garden full of bees. All three are made from a blend of soy and coconut wax and have been inspired by the scents of Ukrainian nature.
Getting into tablescaping in lockdown? Tap into the cottagecore trend while you go. Measuring 90cm x 150cm and made from Ukrainian linen with carefully sewn cotton lace accents and delicate folkloric motifs, this is an absolute delight. Although called a towel, it’s a table cloth and you’ll want to be careful not to spill your spaghetti Bolognese over this one though as it’s dry clean or machine wash cold. A sure-fire way to enhance meal time in lockdown and beyond.
Bathroom accessories but make it fashion? We are here for this set. Multi-purpose, the pot can be used to hold everything from toothbrushes to an eye-catching bouquet, while the saucer can be used as a soap dish, or as a dressing table accessory to hold jewellery. We love the beige, if you’re looking to make a statement, the set comes in mint and pink too.
When we can eventually have people in our homes, they’ll thank you for having these hand towels on offer, which are made from 100 per cent Ukrainian linen and have the same motifs as the linen tablecloth. Plus, they double up as placemats, making your tablescape dreams a reality.
While there are more affordable ways to decorate your living space, Sleeper’s high-end approach to homeware has not gone unnoticed. We were impressed with the high-quality of each product, with strong attention to detail – from the materials used and each product arriving in its own linen bag to the fact the cardboard labels can be planted for “magic to happen”. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the brand’s next drop.
