It’s a truth universally acknowledge (well, almost) that Aldi’s Specialbuys middle aisle is the place to go for securing a bargain.

Want a new velvet scallop bed? Aldi’s got it. How about a new barbecue for the summer spent in the garden? The budget supermarket has recently launched its range for just £99.99.

But, that’s not all, because it’s excelled once again by launching a pocket-friendly 100 per cent silk pillowcase.

While of course your mattress is vital for providing support and comfort for your body when sleeping, another essential for making nighttime that bit more luxurious is a high-quality pillowcase.

With normal fabric cases said to cause friction and skin dehydration, famous faces, including the likes of Victoria Beckham and Gisele Bündchen, have made the transition to silk pillowcases thanks to their ability to improve (and preserve) hair and skin health.

Owing to the fact this is such a luxury product, the price of a silk pillowcase is often in the realms of £50 with some even costing as much as £90. So, when Aldi announced the launch of its Specialbuy deal, we got excited.

The budget-friendly retailer is offering its version of the cult-favourite bedding for just £24.99, and we think it’s going to be your next haircare and skincare saviour.

Coming in three colours (grey, white and pink), with each one available as a two-pack, we think this new launch is going to be an absolute gamechanger.

If you want to get your hands on one, you’ll have to be quick as we suspect it’ll sell-out fast. Available exclusively online, it can currently be pre-ordered before it launches on Sunday 28 March.

To help you beat the crowds, here’s everything you need to know about Aldi’s silk pillowcases.

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections. This revenue helps us to fund journalism across The Independent.

Kirkton House grey silk pillowcase: £24.99, Aldi.co.uk

(Aldi)

Made from 100 per cent pure silk, Aldi’s pillowcases are an affordable way to add a little luxury to your bedding set-up. Owing to the excellent benefits of these luxury products – notably, the fact they’re more gentle to your skin, can help to prevent wrinkles, reduce the likelihood that you’ll wake up with frizzy hair and can keep your skin more hydrated and hair healthier – cotton pillowcases are officially old news.

If grey won’t go with your bedroom decor, the pillowcases are also available in pink (£24.99, Aldi.co.uk) and white (£24.99, Aldi.co.uk). Plus, if you’re feeling like treating your bed-sharing partner, there’s the option to buy all three colours in a two-pack (£49.98, Aldi.co.uk) at an equally affordable price.

While we’re yet to review Aldi’s offering, it’s 44 per cent cheaper than leading retailers, including John Lewis & Partners’s silk standard pillowcase (£45, Johnlewis.com), making this a no-brainer.

What’s more, with so many celebrities heralding these type of cases as a must-have sleep essential, we suspect this is a real game-changer that you need to add to your basket before it’s too late.

John Lewis & Partners the ultimate collection silk pillowcase: £45, Johnlewis.com

(John Lewis)

This John Lewis offering took the top spot in our review, with our writer praising the 13-strong colour range, including pink, pale blue and duck egg, as well as the obvious white.

“The design makes it ideal for minimalists – there’s no border and the slimline inner envelope flap didn’t tickle our face in the annoying way others did,” she said.

Our reviewer noted that it left their skin “gorgeously crease-free”, adding that it was also a “fantastic frizz-fighter – this was tested on a particularly damp, frizz-inducing evening, but we awoke to wonderfully sleek, frizz-free locks.”

Slip pillowcase: £85, Cultbeauty.co.uk

(Slip)

This was another firm favourite with our tester, who gave Slip’s pillowcases top marks for “the huge range of designs (dozens of colours and some particularly gorgeous marbled prints) and the use of 22-momme silk.”

Her verdict? “A brilliant skin-smoother which aided the absorption of oils, serums and creams, and left our hair sleek and shiny – despite the fact that we’d dozed off with damp locks, in a particularly muggy hotel room.”

Holistic Silk pure mulberry anti-ageing pillowcase: £80, Holisticsilk.com

(Holistic Silk)

As one of the “first brands to launch a silk pillowcase specifically designed to improve the appearance of the skin,” you’d expect this one to be of high calibre. And according to our writer, it delivered on “exactly what it says on the tin, keeping our hair frizz-free, our skin crease-free and making it easier for our skin to absorb our night creams and serums.”
