This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Tracksuits straddle the sartorial divide between high and low fashion. With the rise of athleisure and the growing influence of streetstyle on luxury brands, it seems everyone from high street stores to fashion week favourites are falling in love with this humble staple, bred on the athletic tracks of the Sixties.

Universally loved for its comfort and convenience, the tracksuit was pioneered as a lifestyle outfit first by Bruce Lee in the Seventies and adopted by Hip Hop’s elite including Run D.M.C., The Beastie Boys and LL Cool J in the 1980s.

The tracksuit has been a fashion staple ever since, even surviving the post shell suit backlash, with politicians (Barack Obama and Jeremy Corbyn both have a penchant), celebrities and designers showing their love for this timeless wardrobe essential.

While most choices on this list come as a complete set, in some instances we’ve mixed and matched to create a more interesting look. As always, we’ve based our choices on price, comfort and style.
